Some numerologists take into account the meanings of the secondary numbers as well as the nine primaries. There are many ways to do this, as well as many different interpretations of the secondary numbers themselves.

Normally a secondary number will be taken into account only as additional information, or to add a further dimension to the interpretation of the primary number. Suppose, for example, that the letters of a name add up to 11 (which when further reduced gives a name number of 2), and the person's birthday falls on November 11. Such a strong coincidence of the number 11 (November is the eleventh month) cannot be ignored, although 11 is not the occult primary birth or name number. The implications of 11 can be added to the meanings of the primary to fill out the total picture. The more mystically-minded numerologists have offered a vast list of meanings for secondary numbers. Another school of thought recognizes only the secondary numbers up to 22 (there are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet). More often, however, just a few significant secondaries are taken into account, as listed below.

11 This is the number of special mystical awareness, possibly balanced between good and evil.

12 A powerful sign of completeness, being the number of signs of the zodiac, the months, the apostles, etc.

13 One more than the "perfect 12", this number is usually associated with ill fortune and the black arts, but it can also be a positive force.

22 This number, like 12, has a strong sense of fullness and completeness. It is the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet, and of the cards in the major arcana of the tarot.

40 Another potent number suggesting completeness.
