Fluffy Bunny

In many a Pagan Circle you'll find the term 'Fuffy Bunny'. Some view this term offensively and some find it useful. We at Pagan House tend to be 'Hard Core' Pagans. Meaning we think things like having your 13 year old son catch and slaughter a goat with a knife on his own is a good rite of passage. We us the term, mostly among ourselves, to identify those who might think that practices like the above are extreme. It's a useful term to us as it prevents us from bringing herds of goats to those who wouldn't appreciate it.

What is a Fluffy Bunny?

With humor I could just say – well jeeesh it’s one of those cute, furry little creatures that hop along your back yard eating up your veggie garden. However, no. Within the Wiccan community we do have the wicked that label others and than laugh. Fluffy Bunnies are usually labeled as those who fall into the following criteria:
- they persist in believing inaccurate information about Wicca;
- they focus on the “light” side of Wicca to the exclusion of the “dark” side;
- they push their beliefs on others and/or claim persecution constantly;
- they practice in an ostentatious, pretentious manner (such as calling oneself “Lord”/ “Lady” or wearing eighteen pentacles at once), usually because they are into Wicca for the shock value.

Fluffy Bunnies, Insta-witches, McWiccans, One-Book Witches, Wicclets, and Whitelighters: these are those people who, most broadly categorized, give the rest of us a bad name, not by doing bad or objectionable things but instead being unserious, sophomoric, or just plain wrong. ~ Fluffy Bunnies by Wicca for the Rest of Us

I find this label to be such a hair raising issue is for several reasons.

It is offending, childish, and generally always thrown towards those who are seekers or new to the Craft.

Who’s right? Who’s wrong? There is always those who want to debate the authenticity of the history of the craft. Those who do not agree shall be labeled a “Fluffy Bunny”.

After reading several blog posts and articles pertaining to this term it is my understanding that a Fluffy Bunny is one that uses Wicca/Witchcraft for shock value not for it’s meaning or religious value. I can understand that. However, to label someone a Fluffy Bunny because they ask a question in wording that perhaps you do not agree with is unfair. As they always say – no question is ever stupid; the only stupid question is one that isn’t asked.

What is a “Fluffy Bunny” anyhow?

In conclusion – the term is childish in presence. If you have been labeled a Fluffy Bunny because you have asked a question perhaps someone else believes is odd; don’t fret – not everyone in the world will always agree with you.
